Simple Eats – BBQ Hot Dogs

plate with rice and bbq hot dogs on a kitchen counter

The recipe I’m sharing today I’ve been eating since…well since forever because I can’t remember a time my Mom didn’t make these. It’s an easy weeknight dish that revamps your boring hot dog. This recipe is for BBQ Hot Dogs – specifically turkey hot dogs for the recipe that I have, but you can use any type of hot dogs that you like.

BBQ Turkey Hot Dogs

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Cup Ketchup
  • 3 TB Olive Oil
  • 6 TB Vinegar (we usually use Apple Cider Vinegar)
  • 4 TB Water
  • 4 TSP Worcestershire
  • 2 TSP Sugar
  • 1/2 TSP Salt
  • Mustard (no set amount for this one, add as much as you’d like)
  • Pepper (to your liking)

Those are the ingredients for the single recipe, about 10 turkey franks, which is usually one pack of hot dogs. Here is the edited version for a double recipe, which is usually what I make since it’s better for a family, or maybe you just want leftovers:

  • 1 Cup Ketchup
  • 6 TB Olive Oil
  • 3/4 Cup Vinegar
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 8 TSP Worcestershire
  • 4 TSP Sugar
  • 1 TSP Salt
  • Mustard (Add to your liking)
  • Pepper (to your liking)

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a pot, add chopped hot dogs and cook until sauce is reduced and sticks to the hot dogs.

It can take some time for the BBQ sauce to reduce and thicken, sometimes up to an hour, but when it’s done it’s a delicious recipe that your family will love! This dish also pairs well with rice and is great for potlucks!
