Verified by Visa is a proven system that uses identity information or passwords to confirm the identity of cardholders during online transactions, helping prevent fraudulent purchases before they occur. Verified by Visa gives consumers confidence that they can use their Visa cards to make purchases online without fear of unauthorized usage, thus removing the major barrier to increased Web commerce.

Verified by Visa is based on the 3-Domain (3-D) Secure protocol, a security standard for online payments that requires no significant change to the existing payments infrastructure. It works with both magnetic stripe and smart cards, and is easily used via most HTML browsers.
